Dr. William Cloud to offer a free seminar to discuss Acid Reflex Disease
Morganton - If you suffer from frequent heartburn, regurgitation or
difficulty swallowing, you are not alone. You may be one of more than approximately
100 million Americans suffering from Acid Reflux Disease also known as GERD
(Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).
Acid reflux disease occurs when the one-way valve mechanism in the lower esophagus
(throat) does not close properly and contents in the stomach leak back or reflux into
the esophagus. The refluxed stomach acid causes a burning sensation in the chest and
throat and fluid may even be tasted in the back of the mouth. Acid reflux disease can
cause physical discomfort and suffering because the stomach acid can irritate the
lining of the esophagus. This can lead to serious complications if left untreated
such as a narrowing or obstruction of the esophagus, lung damage, bleeding, chest
pain or a pre-cancerous change in the lining of the throat called Barrett’s disease.
Some patients with acid reflux can be treated by changing their lifestyle and diet,
while others require medication or surgical intervention.
In observance of GERD Awareness Month, Dr. William Cloud will host a free seminar to
discuss symptoms, causes and treatment options of Acid Reflux Disease. This free
seminar will be held Thursday, November 18 at 6pm in the lobby of Cloud Surgical
Solutions located in Grace Medical Park at 117 Foothills Drive, Building D in
Morganton. Due to limited seating, reservations by Monday, November 15 are recommended.
Please contact Chasity at (828) 437-0847 for more information or to reserve your seat.
