New solutions to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
The most common symptoms of GERD are heartburn
and a sour taste or fluid in the back of the throat. These symptoms
are caused by the acid of the stomach flowing into the esophagus
and the back of the mouth, producing a reflux. Symptoms are
usually worse when bending or at night, when lying down.
The problem is not too much acid, but normal amounts of acid
in the wrong place.
Additional, although less common, symptoms of GERD may include:
- Dry cough
- Hiccups
- Hoarseness
- Erosion of the back teeth
- Ulcers that may lead to bleeding and anemia
- Scarring and narrowing of the esophagus
The worst result of GERD is cancer (adenocarcinoma) of the esophagus.
However, Dr. Cloud's extensive training, experience, compassion and
commitment to advanced solutions make him exceptionally qualified to
provide effective relief for GERD.
